BIOGRAPHY

Janardanan was born in the village of Ullala near Vaikom in 1946 to Kollarakkattu Veettil K. Gopala Pillai and Gouri Amma. He is married to Vijayalaksmi and they have two daughters: Ramaranjini and Laxmi. He did his schooling from Vechur NSS high school.  After 10th he joined Changanassery NSS collage for pre degree. However he did not complete pre degree and joined Air Force.  After one year training in Air Force, he returned to his hometown and stared doing business.  He completed his graduation from Neyyatinkara NSS college and he got job as clerk in Paravoor central bank.  He did not continue there longer and he resigned his job and joined as the production executive of P.N. Menon for movie Chemparuthi. He also worked in Malayalanadu magazine for some time. Before entering into the film industry had assisted S K Nair in his business in chennai. During this time he made his debut through K.S. Sethumadhavan’s ‘Adyathe Katha’

He first camera appearance was for a documentary ‘pradisandhi’, in which he played the role of a national sample survey officer. He is known for his peculiar style of handling humor and his quaint voice. He started his career playing brusque villains in the 1970s but later went on to establish himself as a highly sought-after comedian. The turning point of his career was the role of Ouseppachan in the 1988 film Oru CBI Diary Kurippu, which brought out his comedy skills. However, he was typecast as a comedian only after the 1993 film Meleparambil Aanveedu. Apart from the stereo type Hindu/Muslim/Christian characters, he has the distinction of portraying a Sikh and a Jewish character.
