Bodhi is a historical film directed by G. Ajayan. Screenplay of the movie is based on the works 'Chadalabhishuki', by great poet Kumaranasan, Lakshmi Narasoon's 'The Essence of Buddhism', Dr. B.R.Ambedkar's 'Ambedkarude Buddhanum Dharmavum' and Rabindranath Tagore's 'Chandalika'. The movie portrays a Budhist monk Anandan, who is on a journey asking Mathangi to share drinking water.
Being a Chandala caste (lower cast community) woman, she denies drinking water to the upper cast man and here Anandan makes her aware of the feudal system that praises chathurvarnya, which denies justice by dividing human beings by virtue. Bhasi Irumbanam has produced the movie with a budget of 65 lakhs. Naushad Shereef and Sumesh Chandran had cranked the camera.
